The Namche Dog Shelter is a community-driven initiative dedicated to the welfare of stray and abandoned dogs in the Khumbu region. Managed by the Namche Youth Group, the shelter provides food, medical care, and a safe space for dogs in need.
With the growing number of stray dogs in Namche Bazaar, the shelter focuses on vaccination, sterilization, and responsible care to control the population and prevent the spread of diseases like rabies. The initiative also works to raise awareness among locals and trekkers about coexisting peacefully with stray dogs and the importance of animal welfare.
Funded through community contributions, trekkers’ donations, and kind-hearted supporters, the shelter is a testament to the youth’s commitment to compassion and responsible tourism. Visitors are welcome to support the shelter through donations, volunteering, or adopting a dog, helping ensure a safer and more humane environment for both animals and people in Namche.
