Prayer Flags

              For the past 3-4 years, we have collected hundreds and thousands of kilograms of used prayer flags and Khadas ( white scarf) from sacred sites, bridges and trails across Khumbu and have them a new purpose.
Once carried by the wind, these flags were believed to spread prayers, blessings and good wishes around the world But when the winds of Himalayas are so strong. Over time, many flags could no longer withstand them and fell to the ground. where they remained for years.
Made largely from polyester, they do not naturally degrade and can prevent vegetation from growing beneath them, leaving a lasting impact on the fragile mountain environment.
This installation is a reminder that even something created with good intentions can leave an unintended footprint on nature.
