Every Refill creates a Lasting Impact
A simple act of refilling your water bottle can make a lasting difference.
The Namche Youth Group is proud to introduce a public water refilling station in the heart of Namche Bazar. For just NPR 100, trekkers and mountaineers can refill one liter of safe, filtered Himalayan glacier water. More than just a water station, this is a community initiative where every refill helps protect the environment and supports projects that benefit the people of Khumbu.
Reducing single use plastic bottles is one of the key environmental priorities of the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality. This water ATM directly supports that vision by providing trekkers, climbers, guides and local residents with a convenient and sustainable alternative to purchasing bottled water. Every refill means one less plastic bottle entering the fragile Himalayan ecosystem
The income generated from every refill is reinvested into community programs led by the Namche Youth group, including:
• Tree planting: Restoring green spaces and planting hundreds of trees each year to strengthen the degraded surroundings of Namche Bazar
• Namche Dog Shelter – Providing food, shelter, and veterinary care for street dogs.
• Porter Shelter – Supporting the management of a safe and welcoming shelter for the hardworking porters who make trekking in the Himalayas possible.
• Saturday market management: Helping maintain the Saturday market that supports local businesses and residents.
• Environmental conservation: Organizing community clean-up campaigns, caring for sacred sites, promoting biodegradable prayer flags, and leading initiatives that protect the natural and cultural heritage of the Khumbu region.
This project would not have been possible without the generous support of Madison Mountaineering Foundation and Mr. Steve McConnell. Their partnership has created a long-term solution that benefits both the local community and the thousands of visitors who travel to the Everest region each year.
By simply choosing to refill your bottle, you become part of something much bigger. You are supporting the local government’s environmental goals, strengthening community – led conservation efforts, and helping fund projects that improve life in Namche and the wider Khumbu region.

We hope this initiative inspires more organizations, businesses and individuals to invest in sustainable, community –driven solutions, Together, we can reduce plastic waste, protect our mountains, and ensure that the Everest region remains clean, healthy and beautiful for generations to come.
Every refill is more than a liter of water- It is an investment in the future of Khumbu.
Refill. Reduce. Ruse
Location: The Water ATM is located in the Center of Namche Bazar, sharing the same entrance as the Mountain Medical Institute Pharmacy, making it easily accessible for everyone.
